Research & Quality

"Over the course of our 40 year history, the development of new products at Vitabiotics has been fuelled by a fundamental desire to deliver natural healthcare solutions that are safe, effective, and relevant to our customers needs."

The Vitabiotics team draws on a wealth of professional healthcare experience, spanning the fields of nutrition, clinical medicine, biochemistry and pharmaceutical science. This expertise helps us to continue delivering a consistent stream of innovative new products in diverse areas of healthcare, from pregnancy and women’s health, to heart and brain function.

Working closely with leading research organisations, we ensure that all of our products remain under a constant process of evaluation and improvement, to reflect the latest scientific and clinical research. These organisations include internationally renowned research centres, such as The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. We also work with many leading UK charities such as WellBeing of women (formerly the medical research and fundraising arm of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists), The National Osteoporosis Society, and The Miscarriage Association.

Our core philosophy, which was instilled by our Chairman for 18 years, Professor Arnold Beckett OBE, is to strive for evidence based, balanced, moderate levels of nutrients in effective formulas. Vitabiotics not only relies on published, peer reviewed data on its nutrient ingredients but also conducts trials on the product formulations themselves. We currently have a number of clinical trials already published, in progress, or awaiting publication, and are probably Britain’s first and only nutraceutical company to have engaged in so many high quality clinical trials in this way. These cover a range of different aspects of health with just a few examples including:

Behavioural effects of vitamin, mineral and omega 3 fatty acid supplementation in typically developing adolescent school children (Wellteen®

Department of Dermatology, University Hospital of Besançon

Quality Assurance

Vitabiotics nutritional products are produced under stricter pharmaceutial controlled conditions than those officially required for food supplements. Quality is controlled in manufacturing facilities that conform to:

Pharmaceutical GMP – (Good Manufacturing Practice). GMP is concerned with both production and quality control. It ensures that pharmaceuticals are consistently produced and controlled to the quality standards appropriate to their intended use and as required by the product specification. Vitabiotics products are classed as food supplements in the UK but are produced to the quality standards of a pharmaceutical.

MHRA approval for manufacture of Pharmaceuticals – The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) ensures appropriate standards of safety, quality and efficacy through the inspection standards of manufacture. Vitabiotics only produces its supplements under pharmaceutically licensed conditions.

Vitabiotics is a member of the HFMA (Health Food Manufacturers’ Association) and HFMA Council member, which helps set the standards for the regulation of nutritional products in the UK and throughout Europe.

Vitabiotics is a patron of the Health Food Institute

Vitabiotics manufacture sites operate to ISO 29002, or ISO 9001-2000. The International Organization for Standardization is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from more than 140 countries. Their standards help increase the reliability and effectiveness of materials, products, processes and services.

The above ensures every Vitabiotics product is produced to the highest standards of quality control, from beginning to end.

Effective Support without Excessive Levels

“All Vitabiotics products has been developed using the latest research to contain effective levels of vitamins and minerals, while avoiding any excessive amounts in accordance with recognised safe upper levels for food supplements. All Vitabiotics supplements offer maximum support from sensible, balanced level formulae.”

Prof. A. H. Beckett OBE, PhD, DSc, Professor Emeritus, University of London.
