Pregnacare is the UK’s most popular pregnancy supplement brand, and is trusted by mums to safeguard the diet of those who are planning for pregnancy or are already pregnant. Pregnacare Liquid is a scientifically developed formulation of 18 important vitamins and minerals, including 250mcg folic acid and 10mcg vitamin D, the exact levels as recommended by the UK Department of Health. Pregnacare Liquid has been carefully developed by experts so that all ingredient levels are within safe levels for pregnancy and are moderate rather than excessive.

Expert liquid nutrition for mother and baby

Pregnacare Liquid has been developed as an alternative supplement format for those who may have difficulty in swallowing tablets or simply prefer a liquid format. Providing an ideal alternative to tablets, the great tasting orange flavour liquid is gentle on the stomach.

Recommended level of folic acid & vitamin D

The UK Department of Health recommends all women planning a baby should take a supplement containing 250mcg of folic acid and 10mcg vitamin D from the start of trying to conceive until the 12th week of pregnancy. This is the exact amount of folic acid contained in Pregnacare Liquid.

Supplemental folic acid intake increases maternal folate status†. Low maternal folate status is a risk factor in the development of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. Folic Acid is also beneficial beyond 12 weeks as it contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy.

With vitamin B12 and zinc

Many studies show the importance of ensuring the correct intake of various vitamins and minerals throughout the entire pregnancy and while you are a new mum. Pregnacare provides a range of nutrients for overall support, all at sensible, carefully balanced comprehensive levels, including vitamins B2, B6 and B12 which contribute to normal red blood cell formation. Also includes zinc which contributes to normal reproductive health.

Pregnacare avoids high dose iron which is not recommended

Unlike some prenatal iron supplements, Pregnacare has been specifically formulated with an ideal, moderate level of iron. High levels of iron are not recommended unless there is a particular requirement as identified by your healthcare professional.

Specially formulated by experts

Pregnacare has been formulated by Vitabiotics experts during pregnancy to help safeguard a mother’s diet. Pregnacare provides a comprehensive spectrum of essential nutrients at carefully chosen safe levels, developed on the basis of international research. Pregnacare is proud to work in partnership with the Royal College of Midwives to support the health of mothers and babies by raising awareness of the benefits of good nutrition.

Before conception and during pregnancy

Pregnacare is recommended before conception to build up the stores of nutrients such as iron in women who are trying for a baby. Good nutrition is important to help prepare a woman’s body for the additional demands placed on it during pregnancy. Certain nutrients, like folic acid, vitamin B12 and zinc are also of particular importance from the very first moment of conception. Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction whilst vitamin B12 contributes to normal red blood cell formation and also has a role in the process of cell division. It also includes iodine which is often recommended during pregnancy.

For all of pregnancy

Good nutritional intake is vital throughout pregnancy, not just the first 12 weeks. Pregnacare Liquid provides essential nutrients throughout pregnancy including folic acid which has an important role during the full nine months and contributes to normal blood formation. You can start taking Pregnacare at any point during pregnancy.

Why has Pregnacare Liquid been developed?
During pregnancy, your baby is totally reliant on what you eat as their only source of nourishment. So even with a good diet, extra specific nutrients may be very important around the time of pregnancy. Pregnacare has been specially formulated so mothers-to-be can safeguard their extra dietary requirement without confusion about which supplements to take. Pregnacare Liquid has been developed for those that may have difficulty in swallowing tablets or simply prefer a liquid format, with a great tasting orange flavour. Pregnacare Liquid contains a careful combination of 18 vitamins and minerals, including 250mcg folic acid, 10mcg vitamin D, and vitamin B12.
When is Pregnacare recommended?
Pregnacare is recommended as soon as you start trying to conceive to help safeguard your nutritional needs before you find out you are pregnant; throughout the whole of your pregnancy and also whilst breast-feeding when extra demands are placed on your body. Pregnacare can be used for as long as required, and can be started at any point during pregnancy.
What do I need to know before starting to use Pregnacare?
Pregnacare has been carefully developed by a team of medical experts including highly qualified pharmacists and nutritional experts, and is based upon solid scientific research evidence, as a nutritional safeguard for women from before conception, and all throughout pregnancy. Pregnacare is a multivitamin and mineral dietary supplement formulated to safeguard the nutritional needs of mother and baby. Pregnacare Liquid replaces your usual daily multivitamin. Your doctor may wish to prescribe an additional iron supplement after the 13th week of pregnancy, which may be taken with Pregnacare.
Can Pregnacare be used alongside medicines?
As a general rule, Pregnacare can be taken alongside medications because it contains only moderate levels of vitamins and minerals. However, if you are already taking prescribed supplements or medications, seek advice from your doctor or health professional first. As Pregnacare contains vitamin K, if you are taking oral anticoagulants (blood thinners) do not take Pregnacare except on the advice of a doctor.
How many days' supply of Pregnacare Liquid provide?
Before and during pregnancy take two x 5ml teaspoonsful of Pregnacare Liquid per day (10ml total). A 5ml spoon is included in the pack. Each 200ml bottle provides 20 days supply.
How and when should Pregnacare Liquid be used?
Two x 5ml teaspoonsful per day is recommended with or immediately after your main meal. Pregnacare should only be taken on a full stomach. Taking the supplement with a large meal maximises the absorption of the nutrients, and can reduce the occasional mild nausea which is sometimes experienced if multivitamins are taken on an empty stomach. After opening store the liquid in the fridge. Pregnacare Liquid is suitable for vegetarians.
Are there any undesired effects whilst taking Pregnacare?
Pregnacare has no known side-effects when taken as directed. Do not exceed the recommended intake. In case of overdose, seek medical advice immediately.
What are the active ingredients?
Please see nutritional information
Does Pregnacare Liquid include calcium?
Pregnacare Liquid does not contain calcium, but if required an additional calcium and magnesium supplement such as Osteocare can be taken with Pregnacare.
Some Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) levels are above 100%. Is this safe during pregnancy?
NRV levels are calculated to help prevent the most basic vitamin and mineral deficiency states. The levels contained in Pregnacare are specific to normal requirements in pregnancy. This is why some levels of nutrients in Pregnacare are higher than the NRV (e.g. folic acid, the recommended level is 200% NRV). More importantly, all levels are safe for pregnancy and well within upper safety guidelines for daily self-supplementation.
Does Pregnacare contain Vitamin A (retinol), because excess may be harmful during pregnancy?
No, Pregnacare does not contain any vitamin A in the multivitamin liquid which has been carefully formulated specially for pregnancy to contain a moderate (non-excessive) level of betacarotene (provided as natural mixed carotenoids) instead of vitamin A. Betacarotene (pro-retinol) is converted into vitamin A naturally by the body as required, and is safe and suitable for pregnancy.
I have been recommended by my midwife/G.P. to take a supplement containing 250 mcg of folic acid per day, only for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Is it safe to take a supplement containing folic acid (like Pregnacare), after this time?
It is perfectly safe to take 400 mcg of folic acid per day throughout the whole of pregnancy. The U.K. Department of Health recommends that women planning a pregnancy should take a supplement containing 250 mcg folic acid daily, from the start of trying to conceive until the 12th week of pregnancy, especially in relation to neural tube development in the developing baby. However folic acid also plays a role in the process of cell division and contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy. Folic acid on its own or within Pregnacare may therefore be taken throughout pregnancy. Pregnacare gives the advantage of not only providing folic acid, but other essential nutrients as well.
What happens if I forget to take my Pregnacare and miss a day?
A regular intake is recommended, but don't worry, this will not have done any harm. Simply take Pregnacare on the next day when you remember, and take as directed. You should not take more than the recommended amount on subsequent days to make up for any day(s) that you have missed. Whilst it is important to take a supplement every day, if you miss one day this is fine because the beneficial effects of the vitamins and minerals build over time.
