Three simple ways to revamp your morning routine

Three simple ways to revamp your morning routine

It takes just 15 minutes to revamp your morning routine with our three time-saving tips. Whether you take all our advice or adopt just one or two of these tips, switching up your morning routine can have a significant impact on the rest of your day.

1. A little morning exercise

recent study by the British Heart Foundation found that around 20 million people in the UK spend over eight hours each day sitting down. Adding a little exercise into your morning routine can really combat the effects related to sitting down for large periods, while standing you in good stead for the rest of the day.

Whilst the government recommends that each adult take part in ‘150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise at least twice a week’, we understand that life, work and routine can often get in the way of good intentions.

Making time for a short burst of exercise as part of your revamped morning routine can make a dent in those all-important minutes of exercise without making drastic changes to your original routine.

Here are a few different exercises you can easily fit into your morning, each of which should take you 15 minutes or less to complete.

  • Do stretches when you get up: This gentle exercise can help to wake up your mind and body, preparing you for the day ahead.
  • Get off public transport a stop early and walk the rest of the way into work: Strapping on your trainers and getting off the tram, train or bus a couple of stops early to walk the rest of the way into work can really help you to clock up those extra exercise minutes.
  • Invest in wearable tech: If targets and benchmarks are your idea of fun, investing in some wearable tech to track your steps and exercise can be a great way to keep motivated.

If you’re struggling to find that extra zip of energy, our Wellwoman Energy and Wellman Energy ranges could help. To support busy lives, both of these contain magnesium, iron and niacin (vitamin B3), which contribute to normal energy release, plus iron, which supports normal oxygen transport in the body.

These are designed to provide nutritional support on the go and give an extra boost, so why not try dissolving one into your water bottle?

2. Have breakfast

Over the past 10 years, numerous studies have reported that people in the UK commonly skip breakfast.

Taking the time to eat a healthy and balanced breakfast has been reported to have a significant impact on overall health and well-being. This is why we have included a few tips below to make enjoying a great and wholesome breakfast easy to achieve, even when you’re on the go.

  • Investigate ‘make-ahead’ breakfasts: Preparing your breakfast the night before can be the perfect starting point when it comes to revamping your morning routine. Those 10 minutes spent making tea and toast could be replaced with overnight oats (prepared the evening before) eaten from a jar during your commute.
  • Take the time to eat, digest and enjoy your breakfast: Whilst making your breakfast the night before saves time, this does not mean that you can rush it! Savour and enjoy each and every mouthful.
  • Use downtime at the weekends for breakfast preparation: Whipping up some breakfast treats for the week can be a lovely way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon. Perhaps you’ll get your partner involved or even ask the kids to help out; stirring up a storm can be both fun and functional! Why not try mixing up a batch of Berry Almond Breakfast Quinoa, served in a screw-top glass jar for grab-and-go morning munchies.

3. Keep it tech-free

The mornings are all about you. Forget about your 10am meeting or the emails that have dropped into your inbox overnight and focus instead on your morning routine. This should be about getting you and your family ready for the day ahead. Take the time to shower, eat and enjoy those precious extra moments without intrusive technology getting in the way.

  • Lose the phone: Don’t check your phone first thing; wait until later in the morning, when you mind is refreshed and ready for the day.
  • Ignore the emails: You may be tempted to check your emails as soon as you get up. Instead, wait until you are ready and have taken the time to complete your morning routine.
  • Chat about the day ahead: Speaking to your family about the day ahead can help you to feel more organised and in a better place to tackle what the day may have in store.
    • Starting the day on your own? Try writing a ‘to-do’ list to get everything down on paper and feel more composed about your day ahead.
  • A tech-free early morning can help you to relax: Start your day with a clear mind, leading to a better day ahead.

Making the most of your productive mornings

With proper planning and preparation, you may be pleasantly surprised at just how much you can complete before arriving at work. Designing a morning routine to suit you is essential here.

Not a morning person? No problem. Give yourself a bit more time to complete your routine or do most of your preparation the night before.

Early riser? Great! Think about how to make your morning routine more efficient, leaving you extra time to relax in the evenings.
